Third Space travels to Gerona

After having seen my slide talk about Third Space, its history and the techniques that I had used in the creative process, the Lacemakers Association of Gerona invited me to exhibit in that beautiful old Spanish town in the northern part of Catalonia. I was thrilled that Tercer Espai III had had such success with those visitors. Even more so, as the geronese association is also a member of OIDFA, the International Bobbin and Needle Lace Organisation to which I had belonged before my migration to the Cook Islands in the early 1980s.

The exhibiton was scheduled for end of October of 2024 at the Espai Santa Caterina, a modern annex to what was once an old hospital. Maria Mercè Rovira Regas (left), president of the Girona Lacemakers Guild and vice president of the OIDFA, offered her much appreciated help in hanging the individual pieces of the installation while I unpacked and ironed them. This time they were hooked on to nylon threads that Mercè had strung tightly across the ceiling.

Prioress St. Daniel - Gerona

While my slide talk was being shown on a large screen on one side of the hall, visitors were invited to immerse themselves into the liminal space. I had been accommodated at the beautiful Convent of Saint Daniel and was particularly pleased to welcome the administrative prioress Maria Assumpció Pifarré (right) whose joy at experiencing my work was contagious.

Because the weather in Girona in October had not been very accommodating and to give more visitors the opportunity to visit the exhibition, it was extended for another week.
